Cordancia Chamber Orchestra Concert: Concerto do Brasil

Winners of the 2024 Nico Toscano Young Musician Competition perform as soloists with Cordancia Chamber Orchestra on this program from Brazil.

 

Also featuring capoeira music and games with com Expressão, a Rochester based academy which teaches and performs capoeira, which combines martial arts with music and dance. https://www.comexpressao.com

This concert features music by Brazilian composers including:

O Martírio dos insetos (the Martyrdom of Insects) by Heitor Villa-Lobos (1887-1959), edited by Ricardo Averbach, with Leona Liu, violin soloist, competition winner

 

Elegia for tuba and string orchestra by Fernando Morais (b. 1966) with Addie Canning, tuba, competition winner (her own arrangement of this piece which was originally written for trumpet)

This isn’t your average art class. Bring your silliest object from home—think googly eyes, toy cheese, or troll dolls—and add it to a wild still life setup. Then get drawing with crayons, markers, and colored pencils in a low-pressure, all-levels class taught by Unstrung Studios.

Sip & Sparkle

Sip & Sparkle is coming to ARTISANworks!

Spend a relaxed evening with artist Jamie Shipcoff Brown (@free_bird_artistry) as she guides you through painting your own stemless champagne flute and two natural scallop shell trinket trays—one large and one small. Choose your own colors and designs to make each piece uniquely yours.

This beginner-friendly class includes all supplies and step-by-step instruction. It’s BYOB (beer or wine), so feel free to bring your favorite drink to sip while you create. Perfect for a creative night out or a one-of-a-kind handmade gift.

Block Print Tote Bag and Tea Towel Workshop

Learn the art of block printing and bring original designs and drawings to life on your own tote bag OR set of tea towels (2)!  

Guided by Ali from Clover&Fox, in this class you’ll carve your own stamp to create a one of a kind tea towel set OR tote bag! Learn step-by-step the process of block printing- from transferring your design, carving the block with professional tools, inking the design and pulling a print by hand. Immerse yourself in this tactile and hands-on medium and expand your creative expression.

All of the materials will be provided for you including:

Carving tools

Stamp material

Ink and brayers

A tote bag or set of 2 tea towels (please specify when checking out)

Please come prepared with any designs or drawings you would like to create for your totes and towels.

Ideal images have bold shapes and lines for beginner prints, experienced printmakers can bring more detailed drawings. Images will also be provided for references.

(extra totes or tea towels can be purchased the day of for $5 per tote or set of 2 towels)

  • Materials Provided: All supplies for the wood flowers and crafting tools will be provided by Geek Chic Floral Boutique. All you need to bring is a hardcover book (we recommend checking out local thrift stores or secondhand bookshops for the perfect find). Whether it’s a vintage novel, a beloved classic, or a book that holds special meaning, your choice will be the heart of your creation.

Learn the art of block printing and bring original designs and drawings to life with a 2 layer reduction print! 

 Guided by Ali from Clover&Fox, in this class you’ll carve your own 4”x6” block to create a one of a kind reduction print with two colors! Learn step-by-step the process of reduction block printing– from transferring your design, carving the block with professional tools, inking the design and pulling a print by hand, then carving and printing the second layer. Immerse yourself in this tactile and hands-on medium and expand your creative expression.

All of the materials will be provided for you including:

Carving tools

4×6” block to carve

Ink and Brayers

Paper

Please come prepared with any designs or drawings you would like to create for your journals.

Ideal images have bold shapes and lines for beginner prints, experienced printmakers can bring more detailed drawings. Make sure your design has 2 colors so each layer will be distinguishable. Reference images will also be provided for you to choose from.

Painterly Printmaking Workshop with Linda

Explore the expressive world of Painterly Printmaking in this hands-on workshop that blends painting and print techniques. 

Designed for all skill levels you’ll learn to create a one of a kind print by layering vibrant colors onto a printing plate to create beautiful floral images. 

All materials are provided. Just bring your curiosity and a willingness to experiment!

Open Terrarium Workshop

In this workshop, you’ll embark on a creative journey to build your own miniature succulent paradise. You’ll design a unique open terrarium, selecting three succulents of your choice, hardscape elements, and a character that will bring life and personality to your creation. Additionally, you’ll gain valuable insights into the proper care of your open terrarium, ensuring its longevity for you or as a gift.
 
All materials will be provided. You’ll have a wide selection of up-cycled vessels to choose from, as well as a variety of succulents. 
 
A charcuterie board will also be provided. 
Bring your own wine/beer to the workshop.

Book Making Workshop

Put your book binding skills to the test and make your own book!

Choose from a few binding styles, compile fun, decorative papers and watch your own book come to life. Great for written journaling, art journaling, a sketchbook, or any other use you may have for a cute, handmade journal!

Varying sheets of paper (handmade, decorative, scrapbook)

String and Needles

Charms for the Outside Binding

Feel free to bring any of your own specific paper, covers, charms or string for binding you’d like to incorporate.
