Vladimir Abad

My name is Vladimir Abad. I want to briefly express my life as an artist, and how it began.

I consider myself a fortunate man because I was born in the beautiful island of Cuba in 1968. In my early years I started showing the ability for the art of drawing. Amazingly this small detail, unknown for me, put a direction and focused my life to love the art of creation, drawing and painting. Now I can express myself and communicate through this beautiful world of art. Around my fourth grade I started taking classes at the “Seccional de Cultura” in my small town of Cojimar, where I was raised. As for every person my life was going through a lot of tests while I was growing; change, experience, that once put me far away from my vision, but like every true natural instinct I felt the necessity to keep in touch with what I love to do. Back to 1986 I understood my mission to be an independent artist trying in art schools like: “Instituto de Arte de San Alejandro” (Art Institute of Alejandro) and “Taller Jose Fowler” (Jose Fowler Studio), where I learn the beauty of carving and made it part of my life. After that, I thought it was going to be an interruption of my life as an artist when I had to join the army in 1988 to 1991, but it wasn’t like that. In that period of time my life got full of experiences because I had the opportunity to create and express myself and also meet amazing people.

When I finished my mission in the army I continued my career and joined important groups of artists and institutions as a member: “Association de Hermanos Saiz”, “Fondo de Bienes Culturales” and “La Madriguera”. I had the opportunity to in the biggest event that happens in the country for visual artists, this is: “La IV Bienal de Havana” (IV Biennial of Havana) at the museum “Mirta Serra” in Bejucal, sponsored by “El Centro Wilfredo Lam” (an art institution). I also had a solo exhibition at the Maximo Gomez Museum of “La Madriguera”). This exposition was televised and recognized. I had other different shows with other artists.

Finally, I became to be an independent artist and I had the opportunity to commercialize my work internationally. My form of art as a sculptor is influenced by many characteristics of multiple cultures. That’s why when you see my work you can see all that in it. It is abstract, is a natural expression of social living, is impressive, is critic, and is contemporary without losing control of the equilibrium, characteristics, and forms. You may easy notice the inevitable touch of my prints, which is the combined deform thinness and strong expressions of faithful copies of natural characteristics.
